The crafty Mrs. Chan

I flew back to Edmonton for a wedding Friday night and left Sunday afternoon. After the wedding reception on Saturday night, my parents made the offer to pick up my buddy Sean and I from the wedding since they assumed that I’d be drinking. Having dropped Sean off at his place, my parents decided to start this conversation (keeping in mind that they knew I had had a few drinks):

Mom: I wonder where you’ll have your wedding when you eventually get married? Edmonton? Toronto? I wouldn’t even know how to decide.
Me: I don’t know.
Mom: I guess it’d probably depend on where your bride is from.
Me: Yeah, probably.
Dad: Who knows? It could be in Hong Kong.
Me: Highly doubtful.

Now watch Mrs. Chan pounce…

Mom: Why do you say that? Did you find a girlfriend in Toronto? I noticed when we were waiting for your luggage at the airport, you were texting someone saying you had arrived.

That Mrs. Chan, she’s a crafty one, isn’t she? Fortunately, I’ve gotten used to it after all these years, so I’m always prepared.

Me: Not unless you think I’m dating Sean.
