You Give Love a Bad Name…if you remember it

When you go to a wedding, you’re bound to run into people you don’t know, or people you recognize but whose names you don’t remember. This happened after the wedding ceremony when I lingered to talk to people.

Afterwards, here was the conversation I had with a buddy of mine:

Him: Hey, what was that guy’s name?
Me: Which guy?
Him: The guy who called you Ichiro.
Me: Hmmm…dammit. What was it?
Him: Well, he clearly doesn’t know your name since he’s calling you Ichiro. (laughs)
Me: No, that’s a nickname he gave me at the Edson softball tournament a couple of years ago. I’m Asian, I play softball, so that’s how that happened.
Him: Oh, OK. Wasn’t his name some famous singer?
Me: Oh, I know who you’re talking about. What was his name…?
Him: Bon Jovi?
Me: (laughs) Bon Jovi? That was your best guess at his name? Seriously?
Him: Wasn’t it?
Me: No…but I know who you’re talking about. Let’s Facebook this and find out.
Him: Alright.
Me: Wait a second, I got it. Dave Bowie! That’s the name of the guy with the same name. And no, that’s not the guy who called me Ichiro. But Bon Jovi? Really? (laughs)
Him: Yeah, Bon Jovi! (laughs) That’s sort of close to Dave Bowie. If that’s not his name, who was that?
Me: Oh wait, I got it - it’s Adam. He’s Hussy’s brother. You don’t know him because you didn’t go to the softball tournament.
Him: Oh, yeah, never met him before. No clue who he was.
Me: Crisis averted.
Him: Yep. No need for Facebook.
Me: But seriously. Bon Jovi?
