A night of being naughty

Things I should be doing on a Monday night:
Studying, reading articles for class, writing papers, looking for a job.

Things I should not be doing on a Monday night:
Going to the MTV studios because Lauren Conrad is in Toronto to promote the last season (*single tear*) of The Hills.

Things I did on Monday night:
Going to the MTV studios because LC is in Toronto to promote the last season (*single tear, other cheek*) of The Hills.

Things I should be doing at 1:30 AM:
Sleeping.

Things I should not be doing at 1:30 AM:
Making baseball season wagers online.

Things I am doing at 1:30 AM:
Making baseball season wagers online investments in probable outcomes of the upcoming baseball season which has achieved an ROI greater than returns from the stock market or a savings account two years in a row.

Happy birthday, Mr. Professor

Remember the prof who said he would make students sing a song if they were late to class?

Well, I’ve never been known for my timeliness, which led to me revisiting the most famous birthday song in the history of birthday songs. To his credit, the prof was consistent with this mandate for those who were late returning after our class break, though by then I had learned my lesson.

A few days later, I was going through the course outline to find out how much an assignment was going to be worth in the class. That’s when this part of the document caught my eye.

Late policy

Well played, sir. Well played.

This is what they call ‘a teaser’

No blog post of any significant substance this weekend as I’m in full-blown preparation for my fantasy baseball draft. I’ll be back on Monday with a story from class involving Marilyn Monroe.

“Yeah, I’ve been in that boat before.”

“Now that I think about it, I’ve been the captain before.”

“Hell, I used to own the whole damn fleet.”

Actual consecutive quotes from me during a conversation today. If you’ve ever talked to me, you’ll know that I enjoy metaphors.

Tony Kornheiser calls out Matt Lauer

If you didn’t know, Matt Lauer from The Today Show hurt himself while cycling and missed a couple of shows. Everybody sent in their best wishes for Matt, except for Tony Kornheiser from Pardon the Interruption who said on PTI that he didn’t believe the story, and that Lauer made it up.

So Kornheiser went on The Today Show to confront Lauer, leading to two and a half minutes of pure comedic gold.

The Office meets The Recession

Every morning, I turn the TV on and listen to CNBC as I’m getting ready to leave. With the recession and the effect of the subprime mortgage debacle hitting the economy, one of the main topics the last few months is whether the government should let certain corporations go bankrupt, or whether these companies are “too big to fail”. This saying has essentially become a catchphrase when commentators debate the merits of whether the government should bail out various financial institutions.

And everytime I hear someone say, “It’s too big to fail”, I think one thing.

That’s what she said.

It doesn’t take much to be the highlight of my day

Filed under: Other Sports, MBA Life

Given how busy I’ve been with school, I haven’t had any time to consistently participate in any sports like I’ve been known to do since I arrived in Toronto. Thus, I’ve been getting fat and probably losing some of my coordination.

But yesterday after a long day at school, I went home around 8 PM. As I was transferring subways, the subway I was trying to catch was already stationed at the platform. I decided to start running for it right as the warning sounded that the doors were closing in a few seconds. I broke out into a full-blown sprint even though I was a good 25 feet away and was pretty sure I wouldn’t make it.

However, I managed to recapture the glory of my junior high track team days and beat the doors just as they were closing. My first thoughts after getting into the subway?

“I still got it.”

This was the highlight of my day. Seriously. It was.
