Just survive two more weeks, you piece of crap

My computer is literally losing functions by the day. On Friday, the search function for documents on my computer stopped working. I brought it into the IT department at Rotman, and when he restarted the computer, asked me, “Does your resolution usually look like this?”

I asked him what he was talking about, and then he showed me that my resolution had become fuzzy and everything was wider than normal. I told him no, and that that had just happened. When I came back a few hours later, he said that he ran a few simple tests, and there were “logic flaws” on my computer. He also said that the disk was “dying”, and that the stories I had told him seemed to support that (ie. computer turning on by itself, random loud beeping, “Operating system not found”) theory. He then said that the disk dying might be why my resolution was all screwed up since that possibly led to my video driver not loading anymore.

Now, the sound seems to be quieter than normal for any given sound level, the computer fan turns on and off every ten seconds for certain stretches of time, the “Hibernate” and “Standby” options are no longer available, and my computer takes longer to start up.

My exam period ends on the night of the 16th. I just need it to survive until then, and not blow up during the one exam I have where I need it, or during the 24 hour case that I have where I’ll need Microsoft Word.

Fortunately, I have the Future Shop extended warranty which I paid $200 for. If they don’t give me a laptop, there’s going to be hell to pay seeing as how literally anything that could go wrong, has gone wrong.

So to conclude, do not buy Toshiba laptops.

The Hillary Duff CD probably doesn’t help

I was thinking about my blog the other day, and what it really was. And if you really take a step back and think about it, a blog is simply a diary for adults, isn’t it?

Then I thought, how come diaries are associated with teenage or even pre-teen girls, but blogs are for adults when they’re really the exact same thing?

Fortunately, I am nothing like a teenage girl.

I don’t listen to girly music at all…oh wait…

I don’t watch a show based around a group of young girls as they deal with the melodrama in their lives…oh wait…

I don’t make lists of celebrities I think are the hottest…oh wait…

I don’t follow Hollywood celebrity gossip like it’s a religion…oh wait…

I don’t look at girls and make judgements about their fashion sense…oh wait…

I don’t go to the bathroom with a bunch of my friends…Finally. See, I’m nothing like a teenage girl.

Superwoman

Remember my strategy prof with the crazy resume?

So last class, she mentioned that the CEO of GM and the head of R&D at GM came to Rotman to talk to her, the dean, and another prof in the strategy department. You get three guesses as to what they talked about, and the first two don’t count. My prof then casually mentioned that she was probably flying into Detroit on Wednesday to talk to the people at GM further. I’m assuming that she’s taking a commercial flight. Oh by the way, she teaches Strategy class to all first year students on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. I was half-joking before about bowing down to her, but now I’m convinced that she’s Superwoman.

Given how GM had less than two weeks to come up with a plan to bring to Congress that decides whether their company survives or goes into bankruptcy, it’s utterly amazing to me that the heads of the company decided to come to Rotman for advice. Not Harvard, not Stanford, not Wharton, not Chicago, not Kellogg, not MIT. None of those guys. That’s amazing. Kinda makes me feel proud. Then again, our Strategy prof did teach at Harvard before she came here, so…

The meal of a champion

I finally had my hot dog and poutine day with friends.
Eating poutine is so bad…yet it tastes so good.

Later on in the day, I stumbled upon this glorious poutine link. Lobster poutine sounds ridiculous.

They say that “hate” is a strong word, but sometimes it’s really not

Remember how I was having issues with my laptop?

On Friday, I opened up my computer at the beginning of class. It then started beeping. And not your customary quiet beep. I’m talking fire alarm/ambulance level of sound. It stopped the prof mid-sentence and everybody stared at me. My screen said, “Operating system not found” (that’s happened before, by the way). I immediately closed the computer and it stopped screaming bloody murder.

I then said to the entire class, “I hate my computer.”

I bet he says it to all the secretaries

Tim Geithner was announced as the next U.S. Treasury Secretary on Friday. My desk is almost parallel to my TV in my apartment so sometimes words are hard to read at a quick glance. When I saw the headline on the CNBC ticker, I thought it read “Next Treasury Secretary: Getinher”.

Sleeping is not recommended, definitely not required

Continuing my last post, one of my friends at Rotman made a very interesting (and true) observation. This week, nobody said “Hi” or “Hey” to other students. Instead, we all started every conversation with some form of “I’m so tired”. And on separate occasions on Thursday, I saw two people sleeping at their desk (not during class though).

My solution for the problem? Passing out Sleeping from 6:45 PM on Thursday until 8:30 AM on Friday. And the only reason why I woke up is because my cell phone alarm went off.
